I've looked everywhere but dear Bill apparently forgot the convenient disable button for this feature. My harddisk makes a lot of noise and during eg tv watching/dinner, the sound of the HD being defragmented is really annoying. Windows does not auto-defrag as long as you do not set up a Scheduled Task for Defrag.

How do I configure auto defrag, scandisk, etc?
My wife's computer seems to think it should automatically run "defrag" every couple of days. I haven't found any way to disable it. What do I have to do to get it to stop? I do a manual defrag on a fairly regular schedule, so this is becoming a nuisance. It usually doesn't make it all the way through,

Without starting the whole debate up again, does anyone have a definitive response to the frequently posed, but yet-to-be answered question: "Is it possible to disable the automatic disk defragmentation in XP? If so how?" There is no auto-defrag in Windows XP. Defrag has to be run manually or via a Scheduled Task.
